RCD trips on new comsumer unit?
I went to a job to change over a fuse board this morning from an old cartridge type one to a new 17th RCD type. Trouble is i was round there till 6pm and it still doesn't work.
The upstairs and dowstairs lights work fine so does the immersion heater but the other circuits (sockets, kitchen lights and cooker) don't. Whenever something is plugged in or the lights are turned on the RCD trips out. Any ideas why this is? Some circuits that work are on a seperate RCD to to those that don't....it's starting to srtess me out!
you will need to get hold of a megger.
check all neutrals are in the proper busbar.
if they are check what rcd is tripping (assuming its a split load bd)
disconnect all neutrals on that side and individually megger each neutral to earth. they should all have relitivly high Mohm readings but you will come across one with a low reading, that is your faulty circuit.
if its a ring you will have 2 faulty legs.
