Physics of heat and cold...?
OK, you've got two rooms separated by an insulated barrier. The only connection is a one inch hole in the barrier. Through that hole is a 1" wide silver rod. It's -100 deg. F on one side, which of course makes the rod very cold. How hot would it have to be on the other side to balance the heat flow so that the transition from hot to cold was right in the middle?
This question arose from me wondering why -100 is so much 'colder' than 100 is 'hot'. I seriously doubt a temp of 100 deg. F in the 'hot' room would be nearly enough to balance -100 on the other. Am I wrong?
What I mean by balance is I want to make the rod above zero on the warm side and below zero on the cold side. If you took a thermographic image of the rod it would be half red and half blue with the transition point right at the center. (thermographic pictures portray temps as various false colors, usually ranging from red to blue)

What do you mean by the transition from hot to cold? What's hot? What's cold? (-100*F isn't 'cold' - it's just less hot than 100*F) What do you mean by 'balance'?
